Perry County has received a $1.6 million grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) to be used for water infrastructure projects, said an announcement from county commission chair Albert Turner Jr.Â
The Perry County Water Authority will be given an additional $200,000 in matching funds from the Perry County Commission to extend a new water service on Highway 183 to the Chilton County line in the east.Â
The commission will advertise the design and awarding of the projects within the next 60 days, said Turner, who also convened a meeting today to set a plan for implementation.Â
"The county water towers will be cleaned, and painted as part of the ADEM grant," Turner said. "The bid will be extended within the next 30 days by the Perry County Water Authority. This will be the second project underway as part of the American Rescue Funds administered by ADEM."
Turner added that in the future the commission will request additional grants to replace water lines beginning with older lines in Heiberger and then throughout the rest of the county.Â
