Perry County Sheriff Billy Jones will hire two new officers to his staff, bringing it to a total of twelve deputies.

One is a veteran certified officer who will be paid $22 per hour while the other will attend an academy class in August before starting at $15 per hour.

"Chairman Albert Turner applauds Sheriff Jones's efforts to keep his force at a peak level," said a post on social media. "The Perry County Sheriff's Department has undergone many positive changes over the past two years."

Turner said that the hiring of the officers is the latest in a number of additions to the Sheriff's Office, including new equipment and vehicles.

He also said that he intends to hold public hearings in Marion and Uniontown to get input from the public on the creation of a metro sheriff's department. The dates for these hearings have yet to be set.
