Perry County's Marcia Smiley has been named a finalist in District 2 of the School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) and Schnieder Electric 2024 Superintendent of the Year for District 2.
"According to correspondence from the School Superintendents of Alabama, nominated district finalists are distinguished leaders who provide a leading voice in sound public policy development and advocacy, and foster innovative ideas and student achievement. Nominees are held in high regard by the parents, the community, teachers, staff, and superintendents throughout their district as well as by their school board," said a post on the Perry County School District Facebook page.Â
Smiley has been with the Perry County Board of Education since 2006. Her teaching background includes West Side Middle School and Albert Turner Sr. Elementary School.Â
The finalists will be judged at the SSA Fall Conference in Florence and the selected Superintendent of the Year will be honored with a luncheon on March 5 in 2024.Â
