Projects in Montgomery and Perry counties were among others to benefit from a 9.7 million spending package that was secured by Katie Britt.

The funding comes from two Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bills, namely the FY26 Labor, Health, and Human Services (LHHS) Appropriations Act and the FY26 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Act.

The bills will be sent to the U.S. House of Representatives for a vote before it heads to President Donald Trump to be signed.

The bills include $400,000 for the Perry County Airport for new runway lights.

There is $1,145,000 to the Montgomery Regional Airport to rehabilitate the primary runway and $1,650,000 to the City of Montgomery for the Montgomery Regional Tech and Innovation Ecosystem Initiative (MRTIEI) Hub.

“Thanks to two key Appropriations bills, Alabama’s River Region and Black Belt will receive crucial transportation infrastructure updates and increased funding for higher education,” said Britt in an announcement. “I’m proud to have directly secured these investments and will continue fighting for Alabamains (sic) every single day on the Appropriations Committee.”
