Some of the highlights of a recent meeting of the Perry County Commission were the road projects taking place, along with funding for future projects.Â
According to a post from Commissioner Albert Turner Jr. the commission heard a report from the county engineer, saying that completion is nearing of work on County Road 53 and 65, with stripping to be the final touch.Â
The report noted that the resurfacing phase of County Road 12 by mid August and that progress has been made on Springhill Church Road and the Sardis Church Road projects in which resurfacing is expected to begin in late August.Â
Turner's post also mentioned that discussion took place on storm shelters in the districts. In his post he said that he would "proceed with plans to reserve Perry County's spot in the manufacturing of the storm shelters; if any commissioner decided to cancel their desire to have a storm shelter, he would honor their wish and let their constituents deal with their commissioner."
The final item was an announcement from Turner of his desire to use funds for the resurfacing of the Albert Turner Sr.- Jimmie Lee Jackson Highway from County Road 6 to the Dallas County Line, as well as for reflectors and painting the northern section of the road.
He added that a grant was given to the state for the project and that he would seek additional funding from Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who Turner said would support the project part of the Selma To Montgomery Federal Trail.
Turner motioned to go forward with the project, which passed.Â
