A ribbon cutting will be held tomorrow for the opening of the Paroles Reentry Center, renamed from Perry County Correctional facility after it was purchased by the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.

According to a post from Perry County Commissioner Albert Turner Jr. the facility was purchased earlier this year by the department for $15 million.

Turner's update stated that Bureau Director Cam Ward said the facility would be intended for parole violators and will house an estimated 400 people.

Specifically those who are housed here are described as "technical violators" such as ones who fail drug tests while on probation as opposed to committing new crimes. If entered into the facility they would typically stay for 90 days.

The facility will also feature programs such as job training and mental health treatment to help reduce the recidivism rate.

Gov. Kay Ivey, Rep. Terri Sewell, Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner John Hamm, and other officials will be in attendance tomorrow.

The ribbon cutting will be held at 2 p.m. The facility is located on U.S. Highway 80 outside of the city limits of Uniontown.
