Marion Mayor Dexter Hinton said the city is looking into citywide WiFi, but they want to make sure it works well before it’s offered.

Hinton said at the March 7 city council meeting that E-Footprint, a company based in Pelham that specializes in wireless networks, is currently testing a system that includes mounting an antenna on the water tower. Hinton said before the service is offered to the public, it must be dependable and cost efficient. If all goes well, he said it could be available by this summer.

Also at the city council meeting residents on Cornelia Street complained to the council about a lack of water pressure. Hinton said they have been working on the problem for about a month. Some leaks have been found and repaired; however, the problem persists. He said that the city engineer has been unable to find the leak that could be causing the loss of pressure in the area.

Because there are so many homes with low pressure and no cause can be found, Hinton said, “if no leak can be found we’ll have to replace the whole line in that area.” He explained that getting materials is a challenge and that it “has taken seven to eight weeks just to get basic materials.”

“I know there’s a lot going on with the economy and all, but I encourage everyone to buy local and spend local,” Hinton said. “Together with teamwork we can make the dream work.”
