The public is invited to “plant” pinwheels in the garden at the Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center at 420 Broad St. in April to recognize Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.

Shining in the sun, the pinwheel is reflective of the bright future all children deserve,” said Lauri Cothran, executive director of CARCAC. “We hope when people take their pinwheels to the garden, they will take a moment to think about what each one represents.”

“We are very concerned about at-risk children in our area during this incredibly stressful time,” she said.

You can plant a pinwheel and post pictures to the CARCAC’s social media pages to help raise awareness throughout April, which was first observed as Child Prevention and Awareness Month in 1981. The CAC will also be sharing fun and free activities and contests on its Facebook and Instagram pages, along with links to child abuse prevention education sites, according to Cothran.
