A public meeting on special education services in Alabama schools is scheduled for April 12 at the Alabama Association for School Boards (AASB) in Montgomery from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The public is invited by the Special Educational Advisory Panel (SEAP) and the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) to voice opinions and ask questions during the meeting.Â
"Participation by concerned citizens at this meeting provides an opportunity to identify issues and unmet needs related to educational services for children with disabilities throughout the state," said a media advisory from ASDE.Â
Those who want to express comments are asked to keep them "objective" and not to mention any school, student or individual by name. The public comment time period will be between 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.Â
To request to offer public comment, email speced@alsde.edu or mail the ALSDE's Special Education Services Section with attention to Dr. Ashley Cawley at P.O. Box 302101 in Montgomery, Alabama 36130-2101.
Interpretive and hard of hearing services can also be requested by emailing Cawley at ashley.cawley@alsde.edu or 334-694-4782. Requests should be made at least five days ahead of the meeting.
The meeting will take place at the AASB's location at 43 S. Jackson Street in Montgomery.Â
