The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning the public of a scam that targets grandparents using AI-generated voices of loved ones asking for money.
Scammers use audio recordings of relatives that are posted online and use a cloning program to make calls. These often say that they've been arrested or have been involved in a medical emergency in which they need money.
The BBB urges anyone who receives these calls not to trust them and to call their loved one to verify. If they can't reach them they are advised to call a family member or friend.
Signs of a scam include requests to wire money, send cryptocurrency, buy gift cards and give them card numbers and PINs.
