Repairers of the Breach president delivers sermon at Bloody Sunday commemoration

Bishop William J. Barber II, who is president of Repairers of the Breach and co-chair of the Poor People's campaign, delivered a sermon at the recent commemoration of Bloody Sunday. 

During his sermon he addressed poverty, rural community investments and voting rights. In Barber's sermon he urged an increase in wages. 

“Shrinking back is not an option. Until every child is educated, until every vote is protected, until every person has healthcare, until police violence is stopped, until saving the world is more important than its destruction, we cannot shrink back," he said in the sermon. "We’ve come too far to turn back now. It’s time to stand up, push forward, keep winning, keep believing.”

Barber delivered the sermon after signers recently wrote a letter to President Joe Biden before his visit to Selma. The letter urged him to take actions on voting policies if he decided to visit for the commemoration.
