There was a whole lot of fishing going on at Roland Cooper State Park on July 23 with two catfish tournaments, starting with the locally organized Catfish Jugging II tournament and finishing with the Alabama Catfish Series.
The morning tournament was organized by outdoor guru and host of the Gettin’ Outdoor with BDL Podcast, James “Big Daddy” Lawler as his second one in 2022. The first tournament held in January was so popular, with 24 teams, Lawler brought it back on July 23.
Before securing the date, Lawler checked with Marshall Hughey, director of the Alabama Catfish Series, because they were scheduled to blast off at 7 p.m. the same day. Hughey had no problem with the jugging tournament being that morning, so it was on with a blast off at 4 a.m. with weigh in at noon to help beat the heat.
