Rooster Day in Demopolis set for April 11

The Annual Rooster Day in Demopolis is set for April 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

The event dates back to 1919 when Demopolis hosted "the great Rooster Auction" to raise funds to build a bridge over the Tombigbee River connecting Marengo and Sumter counties. 

This culminated in what is known as the "Rooster Bridge." The Marengo County Historical Society now holds Rooster Day every year in honor of the achievement. 

The event features Cock’s Crow 5K or 1K, the Rooster Fair (with artists, crafters and makers), local food, live entertainment, and children's activities.
