SABRA Sanctuary, which helps domestic violence victims in Dallas, Greene, Marengo, Perry, Sumter and Wilcox counties holding a vigil.Â
"We could not continue operating in the shelter despite our best efforts to repair this damage and save it," said a post on social media. "These events were devastating for us and the victims we serve."
Â
The old shelter reportedly housed more than 50 domestic violence victims per year with the average length of stay being at least one month. More than half of those being sheltered were children, said SABRA's message.Â
Â
The new shelter will allow them to take on more occupants.Â
Â
"For this reason, we have searched for a new location for several months," SABRAÂ continued. "We finally identified a new shelter that would allow us to double our previous capacity. It must be acquired and meet the strict guidelines for emergency shelters."
Â
SABRAÂ is holding a Boston butt sale with tickets being sold for $35 each. Pickups will be done on June 29 at the Sabra office on 726 Dallas Avenue between 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.Â
Â
To purchase tickets, call 334-877-4645.Â
Â
SABRA continues to assist domestic violence victims. Their crisis line can be reached at 334-874-8711.Â
