Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen explains absentee voting procedures.

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is reminding citizens that the deadline to send absentee ballot applications to county absentee election managers is Oct. 27 and to return them in person on Oct. 29.

Absentee ballots that are being returned in-person must be sent to the county absentee election manager by Nov. 2 before the election. Those that are returned by mail must be sent no later than noon on November 3.

Residents are advised to send their applications and ballots at least two weeks before the deadlines.

Voters must have a qualifying reason to vote by absentee ballot, said a press release from Allen's office. They are required to identify their qualifying reason on their absentee ballot application.

See here for a list of qualifying reasons to vote absentee.

Voters are also reminded that they are required to present a valid form of photo identification before voting at their polling place or when requesting an absentee ballot.
