Selma 60 Public Education Mass Meeting

Alabama State Sen. Robert Stewart and State Rep. Prince Chestnut are hosting the Selma 60 Public Education Mass Meeting on June 17 at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church.

The event celebrates Juneteenth and honors the legacy of educational equity and community advocacy in the Black Belt. The gathering begins with a barbecue and Book Giveaway at 4 p.m., followed by the mass meeting at 6 p.m.

The keynote address will be delivered by State School Board Member Dr. Tonya Chestnut, who lives in Selma.

Partnering organizations for this celebration include 100 Black Men of Selma, Black Voters Matter, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.—Zeta Eta Omega Chapter, Rural Health Medical Program and Legal Services of Alabama.

“This is more than a meeting,” Stewart said. “It’s a day of reflection, community, and advocacy—an opportunity to raise our collective consciousness around public education and equity in our communities.”

The event is open to the public.
