The Selma Public Works Committee plans to ask the city council to add a $3 fee to the garbage bill to cover the cost of residents who can’t afford to pay for the service.

The City of Selma and the new garbage collection service Preferred Waste Solution is hosting a town hall meeting on Tuesday to answer questions about the change in service.

The town hall will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Selma Convention Center on Washington Street.

PWS takes over garbage collection on Oct. 1 and many questions have come up around the community over the changes. The city said in an announcement that the town hall will include a service overview, tell more about what to expect and allow for questions "to get the information you need."

"We encourage all citizens to attend and be a part of the conversation as we work together toward a cleaner, stronger Selma," the city said.
