Selma City Schools reported Friday that plans to reopen schools later this month have been postponed until further notice due to increased COVID-19 cases.
The school district announced they are delaying the Phase III plan to reopen schools, saying on social media that scholars will not begin returning to school this month as previously announced.
"As we monitor the data, we will share more updates soon. We appreciate your patience and grace during this unprecedented time," the district said.
Schools are closed Monday to observe the MLK holiday.

Original plans had preschool through third grade and seventh and eighth grades returning to in-person/blended learning on Jan. 25 on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule. It also had grades 4 through 6 and grades 9 through 12 will return to school on the same staggered schedule on Feb. 1.
