Selma City Schools to host strategic planning summit on Thursday

Selma City Schools is hosting a strategic planning summit on Thursday morning to get feedback from parents, businesses and the community about the five-year strategic plan, A Framework for Excellence.

At the summit being held in the Selma High School Media Center at 9:30 a.m., school leaders will share updated goals and direction for the plan publicly. 

Stakeholders will have the opportunity to learn more about the plan and provide feedback that will then inform the completion prior to the official relaunch of the Framework for Excellence this fall, school officials said in a statement.

“Selma City Schools is excited to introduce a new area, safety and wellness. This area will focus on physical, emotional, and mental safety of scholars and staff with the objective of fostering healthy minds and bodies in a safe and engaging learning environment,” the statement said.

Three years ago, Team Selma launched the Framework for Excellence five-year strategic plan, but the district said so much has changed since then that they are responding by updating the plan with “new, robust and timely strategies and goals.” 

“The pandemic caused us to have to pivot forward and it changed our thinking. However, it did not change our commitment to excellence and this new strategic plan speaks to that," Dr. Avis Williams, Selma City Schools Superintendent, said.

The summit will be shared live from the Selma City Schools Facebook page. Stakeholders are encouraged to review the plan and provide feedback. Following the summit, a draft of the plan will be available on the Selma City Schools website with a link for parents, guardians and community members to provide feedback.
