Do not cross III

A Selma man was killed during a crash involving multiple vehicles on early Tuesday morning, said a statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) on Thursday.

The crash caused closure of Highway 80 in Lowndes County for several hours.

According to the statement a multi-vehicle accident had already occurred when Kenneth B. Watts, 41, was struck in the rear-end by a 2023 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Timothy A. Burgett, 24.

Watts was stationary at the time due to being involved in the previous crash, said the ALEA statement. His car struck an unoccupied car, which caused a series of other unoccupied cars to be struck in the rear-end.

Watts was pronounced dead at the scene while Burgett was injured and transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for medical treatment.

The crash took place on U.S. 80 near the 107 mile marker, within the White Hall city limits.
