Selma Mayor Johnny Moss III will hold a press conference on Thursday to address recent shooting incidents, with Police Chief Kenta Ford expected to be present.Â
According to a statement sent out by Moss's office, he will explain the city's response to the shootings, his "expectations" for the police department and a plan to curb gun violence.Â
Selma has experienced two murders over the weekend, the most recent being the 14th homicide of the year.Â
"Our city has experienced another senseless act of violence, and the people of Selma deserve to hear directly from their leaders about what we are going to do about it," said Moss in the statement. "We are tired of constant gunfire in our community. This press conference will begin a clear, public effort to address it."Â
The press conference will be held at 2 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Selma City Hall on 222 Broad Street.Â
