The Selma Police Department is adding a supervisor, and its chief received a certificate for completing continuing education classes, the Selma City Council learned last week.
Chief Kenta Fulford asked the council to authorize the creation of a sixth lieutenant’s position. Fulford said the additional position is needed because the department has grown to 33 officers. The department has 55 positions in the budget. Eight officers have joined the department in the last year, Fulford said.
Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. and the council congratulated Fulford for completing 80 hours of continuing education training through the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police. Perkins presented Fulford with a certificate noting the accomplishment.
“Talking to other chiefs, not all chiefs have support like I do,” Fulford said.
