A suspect has been arrested for the shooting death of Selma Police Officer Jamyron Hope.

Selma police are investigating a shooting death that killed a Selma teen on Christmas Eve.

Police told WAKA that Jaylen Whatley, 19, was shot and killed at about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 24 in the 2400 block of Church Street. It marked the city’s 20th homicide of 2023.

Selma Police Lt. Ray Blanks told WAKA Action 8 News that there are no suspects and no motive in the case so far.
