The City of Selma will host "Light Up the Sky – Selma’s America 250 Independence Celebration" on July 5.

The event will celebrate 250 years of American independence with live music, food, community art and family friendly events starting at 6 p.m. at the Riverfront Amphitheater.

Selma officials say they will have one of the largest fireworks displays in the Black Belt. The show will start at 9:15 p.m.

The event is free and residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
