The Selma Waterworks and Sewer Board has received a loan of almost $5 million from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management to upgrade the Valley Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant and pump stations.

ADEM announced Oct. 22 that the $4,988,312 loan from the Clean Water State Revolving fund will pay for replacing the heat exchanger, the computerized monitoring system at the wastewater treatment plant and pump stations, piping and compressors in the digestors and the grit box. Back-up generators at six pump stations will also be replaced.

ADEM has determined that the project is exempt from further environmental study. The agency will accept comments until Nov. 22.

Comments should be submitted in writing to John Laney, SRF Section, Permits & Services Division, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, P.O. Box 301463, Montgomery, Alabama 36130-1463, no later than Nov. 22.
