The 2024 The Voice winner Asher HaVon sure has an extensive fan base.
On Thursday, just 48 hours before he is set to return home to Selma for a live concert, young people got together to create parade art.
The National Youth Advisory Board of Foot Soldiers Park teamed up with Payne Elementary School on a glue, glitter and poster board adventure to add their own pizzazz to the parade that is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. beginning at city hall and ending at the Riverfront Amphitheater where HaVon will perform at 8 p.m The finished product will be given to parade participants to show off while walking.
“We miss you Asher,” shouted one little girl. “Welcome home, Asher,” the group chanted. The teenagers of the youth advisory board showed the way by demonstrating the project to the younger children. And, all of them were led by their teacher, Ms. Spencer. She confessed that she loves to do cutouts, so she took on that job among others. Then they all got to work—drawing, cutting, glueing and glittering.
If anyone is wondering how Asher felt about all this, when a video clip was sent to him, he had something to say after wiping his eyes. “That is the most cutest thing I’ve ever seen! That just made me cry. Awww. I hope to see all of them Saturday!” It is a big deal to him.
