A coalition of Selmont residents formally submitted a comprehensive incorporation package to the Dallas County Probate Judge’s Office on April 15 to become a new municipality.
A grassroots movement of residents worked the last several months on “Operation Selmont” to get signatures required to get on the ballot for residents to vote on incorporation.
The package includes a formal memorandum requesting incorporation, signed by Dr. Willie “Mae” Richmond and Mr. Erice Williams, longtime residents and leaders of the effort.
It also had a verified petition supported by over 400 Selmont residents that is required to get the matter on a ballot and showed support from every quadrant of Selmont, from Providence, Selmont, West Selmont, Twenty-Foot, Pine Glenn to Old Montgomery and the former Craig Air Force Base housing areas.
Minister Annie Blue offered prayer over the materials before they were sealed and again upon delivery.
Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn was not available at the time the package was delivered, however, the probate office will now review the submission and advise on next steps. Richmond and Williams said they will continue to follow up biweekly beginning in one week.
The effort started in November 2025 because residents said they wanted their own representation. They hosted meetings and conducted feasibility assessments to plan for incorporation.
