Sen. Katie Britt is pushing a $3 million bill to make upgrades to the water system in Union Springs through the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.Â
If approved by the full senate the project will include constructing a new water supply production well and a 500,000-gallon elevated water storage tank.
An announcement from Britt said that the tank will ensure "consistent" water pressure and water service at local care facilities that include the Spring Manor Assisted Living Facility, the Bullock County Hospital, and the Fresenius Kidney Dialysis Clinic.
Additionally, the project will affect Wayne Sanderson Farms, which maintains an 85,000 square foot processing facility and employs 900 people. The announcement said that is the largest water customer in the system and uses more than half of all water produced by it.
“When I joined the Appropriations Committee, I promised to return your hard-earned taxpayer dollars home to Alabama, and with this funding I am proud to have locked in $3 million for the City of Union Springs Water Systems," Britt said.
"These funds would enable the construction of a new water supply production well and a new 500,000-gallon water storage tank that would provide for local critical care facilities."
