Severe storms that barreled through the Black Belt on Friday and Saturday brought rain and high winds and caused damage reported in Dallas County.
The Dallas County Emergency Management reports the most damage was caused in Marion Junction on County Road 925 where three homes had trees down and sustained roof damage. One house is a “total loss,” Director Toya Stiles Crusoe told the Black Belt News Network Saturday afternoon.
That home is owned by Becky Lipham and her husband and 10-year-old son. Her family set up a GoFundMe page to help the family replace immediate needs items.
"Most importantly, they are safe and we are incredibly thankful for that. Now comes the hard part of rebuilding and finding stability after an unimaginable loss," the family said.
Other storm damage was reported to a house on Royce Street. No injuries were reported.
The Selma area was under a severe thunderstorm warning Saturday morning that packed 60 mph winds and could produce a tornado, the National Weather Service reported Saturday morning.
“The greatest threats (of the storm) include damaging winds up to 60 mph and isolated, brief tornadoes. The storms are moving quickly, so storm speed, combined with wind produced within the storm, over areas that have already received high rainfall totals, may cause a few trees down outside of any warning,” NWS in Birmingham said on social media.
It is unclear if Saturday’s storm produced a tornado. Crusoe said the National Weather Service will test the damage to determine that.
Black Belt counties were also under a flood watch most of Friday and Saturday.
