Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) recently released a video in which she said that she met with UAB officials to voice her concerns about a restructuring that could potentially impact the medical residents at Vaughan Regional Medical Center (VRMC) in Selma.

In the video she stated that the center is at risk of reducing the number of residents from 15 to four by cuts in the UAB Family Medicine Residency Program, which is located at VRMC.

"These residents not only provide care in the clinic and in the hospital, they also provide medial assistance in nursing homes in Selma, as well as they run a Doc on the Spot mobile unit," she said. "And so there's a myriad of ways that they provide access to quality care in Selma."

She went on to say that UAB officials assured her that they were "committed to providing quality healthcare" to citizens in Selma and Dallas County.

"I hope that you know that I will hold their feet to the fire on that commitment to ensure that you get the health care that you deserve," Sewell told the public in her video.
