Sen. Bobby Singleton's bill to raise reimbursement rates for technicians providing ambulance services has passed the House and will be sent to Gov. Kay Ivey for her signature.

According to Alabama Daily News, the bill was passed by a vote of 91-3, with eight abstentions.

Under current policies EMS technicians cannot be paid for ambulance services when care is given on site if someone refuses to be transported.

Additionally, patients also receive surprise bills for the portion of an ambulance ride that insurance does not cover. Singleton's bill seeks to put an end to this.

A pilot program was set that will expire in 2029.
