The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) Action Fund has endorsed Jae’Ques K. Brown for mayor of Greenville as an runoff election is scheduled for Sept. 23. 

Brown serves on the Greenville City Council in District 4. A press release from the SPLC Action Fund released a statement saying that he has been involved in efforts to reduce poverty and crime and address infrastructure issues. 

“Leaders rise to the occasion to help and inspire their communities in the toughest of times. By that definition, Councilman Jae’Ques K. Brown is a natural-born leader with a clear vision for the future to uplift the residents of Greenville,” said Madison Hollon, program manager of political campaigns, SPLC Action Fund.

“His mayoral campaign seeks to continue his efforts as a councilman to provide transparency for citizens and build economic development in Greenville. The SPLC Action Fund is proud to endorse this candidate for his bold leadership and dedication to community investment.”

If elected, Brown will be the first black mayor of Greenville. Dexter McClendon currently serves as mayor.
