Civil Rights Memorial

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) will hold its wreath laying ceremony to honor those who fell during the civil rights movement, followed by a rally at the Alabama State Capitol on Friday, March 7. 

The ceremony will be held at the Civil Rights Memorial Center. A wreath will be laid at the memorial inscribed with the names of Congressman John Lewis, as well as 40 people who were killed during the civil rights movement. 

The laying takes place at 1 p.m. 

At 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. the SPLC will host its "Reimagining Democracy: A Call to Action at the Alabama State Capitol" focused on voting rights and commemorating Bloody Sunday.

  • ACLU of Alabama
  • Faith in Action
  • Alabama Values
  • Planned Parenthood
  • Alabama Forward
  • Black Voters Matter
  • Center for Fair Housing

Lastly, the SPLC will host a gala at the Renaissance Hotel at 5:45 p.m. Kevin Frazier of Entertainment Tonight will be the host. The gala will feature SPLC President Margaret Huang, SPLC Alabama State Office Director Tafeni English-Relf, Congresswoman Terri Sewell, New York Congressman Joe Morelle, and entertainment by the Blind Boys of Alabama.
