A state of emergency has been declared ahead of what is expected to be severe weather from the evening hours of Friday through Saturday morning and then from noon to Sunday morning.

National Weather Service Birmingham warns that during these times strong tornadoes could develop, along with large hail and damaging winds gusting up to 60-70 mph.

The second round of storms will be stronger, say weather reports.

“The state of Alabama is at risk for potentially dangerous, severe weather throughout this weekend, so it is critical that everyone stays very aware of their local forecasts," Gov. Kay Ivey shared in an email on Friday.

"Now is the time to make any preparations and have a plan, should the weather conditions become dangerous. Certainly, we are no stranger to Mother Nature’s wrath, but I encourage Alabamians to be vigilant beginning tonight. Stay weather aware and stay safe!”

The state of emergency activates the Alabama National Guard, prevents price gouging, closes offices and schools among other actions that can be read about here
