Uniontown

A man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a Uniontown man on Saturday.

Javontae Smith turned himself into law enforcement on Sunday, a day after a shooting near Cobb Street that left Antonio Terrell Morgan, age 21 of Uniontown, dead.

District Attorney Robert Turner Jr. said the shooting happened around 1 p.m. and that Morgan was shot several times.

Smith appeared in the Perry County District court June 18 in front of Perry County District Court Judge Robert D. Bryant, who appointed two attorneys for Smith. Turner said it was the first appearance in court for Smith. Charges are one count of murder and one count of reckless endangerment.

Smith is currently being held without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 25 at 11:30 a.m.

A bystander tried to save Morgan by driving him to Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis. Read about that here.
