The Temple Mishkan Israel in Selma has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Alabama Historical Commission (AHC) to continue its preservation efforts.Â
Established in 1870 it is hoped that the grant will support "expanding its capacity to welcome visitors," offer community programs and educate the public about Jewish history in Selma, said a statement from the temple.Â
"The Selma Temple Board of Directors and I are grateful for the support of the Alabama Historical Commission," said Stephanie Butler, Director of Community Programs. "This grant is an important investment in preserving both our historic building and the stories it represents."
AHC administered funding from the Education Trust Fund Historic Sites Grant program.Â
