On Tuesday Rep. Terri Sewell released a statement in which she criticized the administration of President Donald Trump in regard to rising grocery prices that she says is impacting Alabamian, especially in the 7th District.
Sewell recorded a video in a grocery store in the 7th District where she said that prices are the result of what she called "broken promises" from Trump.
She compared the prices of tomatoes, coffee, ground beef, and fresh fruits and vegetables from a year ago to the time that the recent video was made.
“Last year, I invited my constituents to come grocery shopping with me to highlight the rising cost of everyday essentials,” she said. “One year later, I’m back, and the promise that President Trump made to bring prices down is still nowhere to be found.”
Sewell stated that promises were made by Trump to lower costs but they have gone up, lending to what she called an affordability crises for the district, including rising costs for groceries, housing, utilities, gas, and health care.
She called for Republicans and Democrats to work on solutions to bring prices down.
