An alumni of the Troy University (TU) College of Education has been named the 2025 Florida Teacher of the Year out of five finalists. 

According to an announcement from TU, Jamie Suarez teaches math at Challenger K-8 School of Sciences and Mathematics in Hernando County, Florida. The was presented the award by Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr.

“I am deeply humbled to be named the 2025 Florida Teacher of the Year,” Suarez said. “It is both an honor and a privilege to represent not only this remarkable profession but also the extraordinary teachers who make it so special. I am thrilled to represent Hernando County and the many phenomenal educators and programs that we have here.”

Suarez received $50,000 award from the state of Florida as part of the honor.

She will also receive a tuition waiver for a graduate degree from the Florida State University College of Education as well as a two-year Florida College scholarship from the Florida Prepaid College Savings Plan to be presented to a student that she chooses.
