Troy University has received a $150,000 grant for enhancements to its police department on campus.

The funds were granted through the U.S. Department and will be used to add CCTV cameras at Veterans Memorial Stadium, as well as to purchase a mobile camera trailer for additional coverage during events.

The funds were secured by Alabama Senator, Tommy Tuberville, said an announcement on Friday.

“We are appreciative of Senator Tuberville and the work he did to secure DOJ funding for University Law Enforcement agencies across Alabama,” said Troy University Police Chief George Beaudry. “This enhances the safety of our campus for our students and visitors alike.”

The announcement adds that the additions are also to enhance response measures in case of active shooter situations. It cited three mass shootings that occurred on college campuses in 2023.

“The surge in violent gun-related incidents on other campuses led us to conduct an internal security audit,” Beaudry said. “In the course of the audit, several deficiencies were identified, including a lack of responsive and protective equipment and video surveillance at specific locations.”
