Soldiers Saluting

Troy University will provide tuition scholarship for military students while the government shutdown persists, said an announcement on Tuesday.

“As a Marine, I learned you never leave anyone behind on the battlefield,” said Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. in the announcement. “This is a time of uncertainty, but Troy University won’t let our military students face this challenge alone. We will proudly provide a scholarship equal to tuition assistance so that our service members’ educational goals are not disrupted.”

The announcement went on to say that all previously approved Military Tuition Assistance for Term 2 this year have been cancelled, and that the university will offer scholarships paid through Military Tuition Assistance.

Additionally, military students can still use the Military and Family Scholarship reducing tuition to the Department of Defense-approved rate of $250 per credit hour.

This makes sure that there are no out-of-pocket tuition expenses, the announcement said. It also covers the cost of required course materials and textbooks through the Trojan Book Bag program.
