The University at Buffalo football team visited Selma on Wednesday to learn the history of Selma while in Alabama to play in the Camellia Bowl in Montgomery on Christmas Day.
About 170 football players arrived in Selma on seven tour buses around 4:30 p.m. and toured the Selma Interpretive Center before crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in a light rain as the sun set.
Buffalo plays Marshall in the Camellia Bowl on Friday at the Crampton Bowl as part of the Sun Belt conference.
Many of the players said they have never been to Alabama or Selma. Kevin Marks Jr., a running back for Buffalo, said he had always wanted to see the Edmund Pettus Bridge and plans to do a paper on Selma for one of his classes next semester.Â
