A police pursuit of a stolen vehicle began with a traffic stop in Autauga County and ended with a crash in Montgomery County. Shots were fired during the incident, police say.Â
According to a press release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) troopers stopped the driver of a 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup that was confirmed to be stolen.Â
The traffic stop happened on Interstate 65 southbound at the 185 mile marker in Autauga County, said ALEA's report.Â
The driver then reportedly drove away, kicking off a pursuit in an attempt to evade police. The pursuit came to a stop when the driver caused two car crashes and then crashing and overturning near the 173 mile marker in Montgomery County.
ALEA's report says that gunfire was exchanged between police and an occupant of the vehicle. Police confirmed that a subject was dead and another has been transported to a hospital for medical treatment. One of the divers that the Dodge Ram struck was injured and also transported to a hospital.Â
The suspect was later identified as Isaias Garcia, 35, of Rowlett, TX. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured passenger was identified as Terrell Dry Jr., 46, of Palmetto, GA.Â
No police were injured during the exchange.Â
The crash caused two lanes of Southbound I-65 to be blocked. The scene has been cleared.Â
