Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma recently named winners of the DAISY Award.

Melody Patterson, nurse and ICU director, won the award while the nominees are Rita Ufomado, RN and House Supervisor, and Ashley Moore, RN - Emergency Department.

The award is given by the DAISY Foundation, an international group that recognizes the achievements of nurses.

“Their hard work, dedication, and passion for nursing truly make a difference in our hospital and our community,” Vaughan Regional said in a statement.

The DAISY Foundation was created following the death of a man named Patrick Barnes. Noting the performances of the nurses attending Barnes, his family founded the group, which is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.”

DAISY now recognizes and promotes nursing and healthcare both inside and outside of the United States.
