Vaughan Regional Medical Center and CEO Michael James announced Monday the hiring of a new quality director who will oversee Vaughan’s healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance efforts.

Karen Holland was named to the position of quality and risk director. She comes to Vaughan from Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, a 344-bed hospital in the Alabama Black Belt, where she served as practice administrator for the Hospitalist and Emergency Department physicians and quality and regulatory compliance director for 23 years.

“I am honored to join the Vaughan team,” said Holland “This is an organization deeply rooted in community, and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff to ensure we deliver the highest standards of care for every patient we serve.”

James emphasized the importance of this appointment in supporting the hospital’s essential mission of providing exceptional patient care.

“Karen’s expertise will strengthen our ongoing efforts to deliver high-quality care to the people of our region,” said James. “As the trusted healthcare provider for Selma and the five counties, we are committed to ensuring every patient receives safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care. Karen’s leadership will help us raise the bar for quality care even further.”

Holland’s approach to quality is grounded in collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and a firm belief that every patient deserves the best possible outcome, the hospital said in a statement. She will be instrumental in enhancing the hospital’s performance metrics and supporting its clinical teams in continuous improvement.

“Every patient that comes to Vaughan deserves the best possible care and every team member at Vaughan wants to provide the best care possible,” said Holland. “My role is to help guide best practices and help build upon a culture that elevates safety and quality and empowers team members to do what they do best, caring for others.”
