Vaughan Regional Medical Center (VRMC) is encouraging the public to take part in "Go Red for Women" on Feb. 4 to raise awareness about women and heart disease.

"Go Red for Women" encourages everyone to wear red throughout the day. According to VRMC's Facebook page, heart disease is the number one killer of women.

Women with type-2 diabetes are 4-5 times more likely than men to contract heart disease. Early menstruation and menopause put women at a higher risk. Additionally, heart disease is especially underdiagnosed in Black women.

"Go Red for Women" is an effort by the American Heart Association.
