The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) has announced the winners of its 2026 Montgomery Public Schools Legacy Scholarship.
37 winners were selected, nearly all of whom are graduating seniors from Montgomery's eight public schools. Each received $10,000, with an additional two $5,000 scholarships awarded.
The winners were chosen after an essay contest that asked them to write about their experience visiting EJI’s Freedom Monument Sculpture Park or through interviews conducted at each school.
“Over the last four years, we have awarded $1.3 million dollars worth of scholarships to Montgomery high school graduates to advance their education and go to college. I’m incredibly proud of all of these young people and the hope, joy, and inspiration they provide to all of us,” said Bryan Stevenson, EJI executive director.
