Demopolis Fire Station No. 1

Demolition of the frame house at Demopolis Fire Station No. 1 is on hold as a new bid request is prepared.

Demolition of the frame house at Demopolis Fire Station No. 1 is on hold.

The Demopolis City Council decided at their Dec. 4 meeting not to approve a bid to take down the house because the two bids covered different amounts of work. The council suggested Public Safety Director Rex Flowers issue a request for proposal that formally sets out the scope of work the city expects.

The frame house is being demolished so the city can build a new structure to house firefighters and some offices at Fire Station No. 1.

The council also asked for an update on a project to repair some downtown sidewalks to ensure they are completed on time. The project has been delayed by rain and work was suspended during Christmas on the River activities.

The council also approved the sale of a surplus Tahoe truck to the University of West Alabama, and they approved a one-time holiday pay increase of $75 for part-time employees and $150 for full-time employees. City employees will be off on Dec. 25 and 26.
