Rotary Scholarship group shot

The 2025 scholarship went to Sydney Pritchett of Selma High, Delaney McHugh of Morgan Academy, Kenlynn Lawrence of Meadowview Christian, Radiance Ransom of Dallas County High and Saniya Wilson of Saints Virtual Academy. They are here with the family of the Renee Kelley Wilkerson scholarship: Donna and Bob Kelley, Paul Wilkerson and daughter Annese. Also Scholarship Chair Jerria Martin.

Dear Editor:

As many of you know, I had the honor of serving as a District Governor for Rotary, but my proudest title is Renee’s dad. My daughter, Renee Kelley Wilkerson, was a Selma native and former President of the Rotary Club of Selma. In 2017, her life was tragically cut short, but her passion for service and young people lives on through the Renee Kelley Wilkerson Scholarship.

Each spring, on Renee Kelley Wilkerson Day, Selma-Dallas County seniors compete for scholarships ranging from $200 to $1,500. They share their accomplishments, their dreams, and their commitment to service – reminding us of the bright future Selma’s youth are capable of when given the chance. Past recipients have come from Selma High, Dallas County High, Southside, Morgan, Keith, and Ellwood Christian.

These scholarships ease the financial burden of college expenses like books, tuition, or travel – and just as importantly, they remind our students that their community believes in them.

I’m asking you to help us continue this legacy. A gift of:

$200 can cover books or supplies.

$500–$1,000 can offset tuition or fees.

$1,500 or more can fully sponsor a student in Renee’s name.

Your donation keeps Renee’s spirit alive and gives our students the encouragement they need to aim higher. Contributions are fully tax-deductible and may be made by check to Blackbelt Benefit Group or online by going to www.blackbeltbenefitgroup.org/support and clicking on “Write us a comment” where you can put “Renee Kelley Wilkerson Scholarship Fund.”

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for considering this opportunity to invest in Selma’s youth and carry forward Renee’s legacy of service.

With gratitude,

Bob Kelley

Father of Renee Kelley Wilkerson

Former District Governor, Rotary
