The Rotary Club of Selma has a new president.
In their annual “Pass the Gavel” ceremony on Monday, the club’s previous past-presidents passed the title – and an actual gavel - over to the new president Collins Pettaway III to oversee the civic club for the 2023-2024 year.
Outgoing President Chris Fails swore in Pettaway for the new role during the Rotary Club of Selma’s weekly meeting at Cornerstone Presbyterian as a crowd of 25 watched in support.
Pettaway outlined his plans for the year that included growing membership, forming the high school Interact Club, increasing fundraising efforts and projects in Selma and highlighting the top effort of the year: a reading initiative in partnership with the Selma City and Dallas County school systems to help raise reading scores.
“We are a service club,” he said, pointing to the club’s mantra “Service Above Self.” “These children are our future.”
