A Selma native was among 11 students recognized at the Rural Medical Scholars Convocation on April 23.
Jailyn Shepard of Selma has completed the Rural Medical Scholars Program, which is part of The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences.
The program, for rural Alabama students studying to become physicians with plans to practice in rural communities, includes a year of study after students receive their undergraduate degree and leads to a master’s degree in Rural Community Health and early admission to the UAB Heersink School of Medicine.
Students recognized are Jackson Byrd, Aubrey Cox, Alexis Hyde, Bryce Jeffrey, Lili Kaplan, Chase Layton, Sam Penque, Erin Roberts, Jailyn Shepard, Lily Wiedmer and Jenna Wood.
